Ok. Week one of my summer job with the Forest Service is officially over. I began work on May 24th, and my days off for June are Sundays and Mondays. I worked six days in a row, which wasn't that bad. When Mollie and I arrived on May 23, it was threatening to rain and we had to set up our tent quick. Since it was a loaner tent, it didn't go as quickly as we had hoped. Luckily, our supervisor Leigh Anne and her daughter Rue were familiar with the tent style and got us straightened up quick. Sara was there as well, and we all chatted and started to get to know one another.
Sunday was the first day, and I basically shadowed Leigh Anne and Shari (the forest archaeologist and boss boss) throughout the day. That evening, we at at the High Plains Drifter and went back to Hudson Meng. It was threatening a nasty blow, but we prevailed. The tent didn't want one corner to stay in the ground, so I improvised and tied it to the bumper of the car. Sometimes, quick thinking is the best invention.
Doing tours of the Hudson Meng site is fun. We have had a lot more visitors than I expected at first. People from all over the world have come in the first week, and I am hoping that more will be intrigued and come and visit us.
There are no researchers at Hudson Meng this summer currently. It makes it hard to convey what the research looks like, but the more and more we talk, most of the visitors ask lots of good questions. This is very helpful.
I hope more people come. I will update as soon as I can, hopefully once a week. Come to Hudson Meng. Learn about 125 Bison antiquus that died 9500 years before present. Learn what we have found out, learn the questions and learn that the questions will never be completely answered.
