About Me:
I live in Glasgow, Scotland, where I'm now half way through my MA at the University of Glasgow. This year I'm focussing my interests on aspects of the Aegean bronze age, and British neolithic, but I have a lot of other wide-ranging interests within the subject; particularly, in landscape archaeology, prehistoric northern europe (although I'm starting to think it'd be nice to work somewhere a bit warmer on occasion!), and the application and interpretation of differential theories .

Before getting in to this side of things I took a BSc in Biomedical Science, before working as a session guitarist for a major label for a few years. Contrary to the claims of some of my friends, Archaeology is a far superior discipline!

I'm probably happiest travelling, exploring and so on, and I adore the north of Scandinavia (actually, the south isn't so bad either!).

If anyone fancies a bit of a chat about things, archaeological or otherwise, feel free to come say hi.

a_little_contrast@hotmail.com

I spent last summer digging a series of neolithic dwelling depressions on the banks of the Iijoki River in Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland, as well as doing a lot of experimental archaeology. This summer I'm doing the field school at the SERF project (Strathearn and Forteviot Environs Project) in Perthshire, Scotland; doing survey and excavation of a neolithic henge and cursus, and an Iron Age hillfort. Should be fun! Should also be digging a viking longhouse in the far north of Scotland towards the end of the summer, should time allow it.

Both Michael and Ross make an excellent point. I will think about establishing a group dedicated to the exchange, donation, and sale of archaeology-related resources for our membership. I have yet to receive feedback on this issue from other members, so I will wait to hear from them before I decide on the appropriate vehicle for this kind of thing. Thanks for your ideas!

The museum is in Scania (southernmost Sweden). I suspect stone age Scandinavian reconstruction looks pretty much the same everywhere.

The public aspect is nice, as is being able to give people a view of the mesolithic and neolithic that isn't based on the Clan of the Cave Bear (adults) or the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series (kids) and seeing their reactions.

Thanks for the overview. It sounds like a good place to work. And of course would be tied in with many other areas. Here in the U.S. we have very little in the way of other cultures. some sites on the east coast of course have english, and french components, some viking sites in the far north (canada and above) as I am sure you know.

In the southwestern US are a lot of cliff dwellings and pit houses.

I like the idea of working with several different countries to build the archaeological record

Hopefully! Sounds like you're doing an interesting course. You like the department and everything? I'm excited to get started there. Any helpful advice?
